Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales Wii Video Game Review
About this Game: Cars Toon: Mater’s Tall Tales is inspired by Disney/Pixar’s wildly popular animated shorts of the same name. A follow up last year’s successful Wii release, Toy Story Mania!, Cars Toon: Mater’s Tall Tales is part of the Mania! video game franchise, featuring fast-paced, multiplayer, family fun. The game is a frenzied pick-up-and-play experience to be enjoyed by everyone in the room. With up to four players at once, Mania! games reward competitiveness and cooperation among players. The game will bring Mater together with Lightning McQueen and the “Cars” gang for a new set of adventures, capturing the endearing sense of humor of everyone’s favorite tow truck. Players will join Mater and his pals as they relive the wild stories he conjures up about hilariously unpredictable events that may or may not have taken place. The voice of everyone’s favorite tow truck, Mater, will be supplied by Daniel Whitney, “Larry the Cable Guy,” who also voices the character in the film and cartoon shorts.
Our Take: Video games are one of those tricky products that really needs to be worth the money. Its not like a toy or a DVD that has a price point around $10. We're talking about a significant investment when it comes to most games. This latest Disney/Pixar game retails for around $50, so is it worth the dough mom and dad? Absolutely!
Cars is still one of Pixar's highest grossing properties. The merchandise is still flooding stores and the sequel to the film is coming out in 2011. There has been a show on the Disney Channel called Cars Toon, which is what this game is based on. In fact, the video scenes that cut in the game are take from the actual cartoon, so the quality is outstanding.
How is the gameplay? Its a joy, because it really gives you a high level of variety. I don't typically get into games for younger kids, but I can play this one right alongside by 6 and 8 year olds! You get dozens of types of game, from shooting to driving and beyond. It changes things up enough that you really stay interested. You can even customize your own car to use and buy add-ons for it along the way. The game is full of your favorite characters and it is really one of the most outstanding video game titles of the year.
Its an amazing game with a TON of fun and will make any kid overjoyed and entertain the parents, as well. Go pick this one up today.
